Green Sand Process
The green sand process, also known as sand casting, is one of the oldest and most versatile casting methods in the industry. In this process, a mixture of sand, water, and additives is packed around a pattern to create a mold. Molten metal is then poured into the mold cavity, where it solidifies to form the desired casting. Green sand casting is renowned for its cost-effectiveness, simplicity, and ability to produce complex shapes with excellent surface finish.

Molasses Sand Process
This process is the oldest process of moulding of the cast irons. Using this process the finishing and the size accuracy meets all the benchmarks.

Shell Moulding
Shell moulding, also known as shell casting, is a precision casting process that utilizes resin-coated sand shells to create molds. Unlike traditional sand casting, shell moulding produces thin, uniform mold shells that offer excellent dimensional stability and surface finish. The process involves creating a heated metal pattern, which is coated with a layer of resin-coated sand. The sand shell is then removed from the pattern and assembled to form the mold cavity. Molten metal is poured into the shell mold, resulting in high-quality castings with precise details and minimal defects.
At B K Industries, we employ cutting-edge melting techniques to ensure precision and efficiency in our casting process. With our state-of-the-art equipment and expertise, we deliver high-quality castings tailored to meet the diverse needs of our clients.
Equipment: The company has two induction melting furnaces. One has a capacity of 500 kg (3 nos), and the other has a capacity of 750 kg (1 nos).
Crucible Capacity: The crucible, which holds the molten metal during the melting process, has a capacity of 500 kg for the smaller furnace and 750 kg for the larger furnace.
Annual Production: The company produces approximately 3600 tons of castings per annum.
LABORATORY PROCEDURE
At B K Industries, our commitment to quality extends to every stage of the casting process, including meticulous testing and analysis in our advanced laboratory facility. Our laboratory services are designed to guarantee the highest standards of quality control and product performance, ensuring that every casting meets the exact specifications and requirements of our clients.
Green Sand Testing: In our green sand testing process, we employ a range of essential tests to assess the quality and integrity of our molds. This includes:
- Moisture Test: Determining the moisture content of the green sand to ensure optimal mold quality.
- Permeability Test: Evaluating the ability of the green sand mold to allow gases to escape during casting.
- Green Compression Strength Test: Assessing the strength of the green sand mold to withstand the pressure exerted during the casting process.
Chemical Analysis of Casting Material: We utilize state-of-the-art spectrometers for precise chemical analysis of our molten metal. Our process involves:
- Sampling the liquid metal bath for analysis.
- Testing the sample on our spectrometer to determine its elemental composition.
- Adjusting the composition as necessary to achieve the desired final alloy.
- Sampling the final molten metal for a final round of analysis before pouring it into the mold.
Physical Testing of Casting Material: Our physical testing procedures ensure that our castings meet the highest standards of performance and durability. We conduct:
- Tensile Testing: Assessing the material’s tensile strength to ensure it meets the required specifications.
- Hardness Testing: Evaluating the hardness of the casting material to verify its suitability for specific applications.
Fettling Process
At B K Industries, we understand the importance of meticulous finishing to ensure that every casting meets the highest standards of quality and precision. Our fettling process encompasses a range of techniques aimed at refining the casting’s shape, surface finish, and overall quality.
Shot Blast: Shot blasting is a vital step in our fettling process, where we employ high-speed projectiles to remove impurities, scale, and contaminants from the surface of the casting. This not only enhances the cleanliness of the casting but also improves its surface finish, preparing it for further processing.
Grinding: Equipped with advanced grinding facilities, we meticulously grind and finish each casting to achieve the exact shape and dimensions required. Our skilled operators ensure precise material removal, resulting in castings that meet the most stringent specifications and tolerances.
Inspection: Inspection is a crucial stage in our fettling process, serving as a cornerstone of our quality assurance measures. We conduct multiple inspections to verify the quality and integrity of each casting:
- Inspection at Foundry: Immediately after cooling, the casting undergoes a thorough inspection to identify any visible defects or irregularities.
- Inspection after Shot Blast: Following shot blasting or cleaning, another inspection is carried out to ensure that the casting’s surface is free from contaminants and defects.
- Final Inspection: After grinding and finishing, a comprehensive final inspection is conducted to validate the casting’s dimensions, surface finish, and overall quality. Only castings that meet our stringent quality standards are approved for dispatch to our clients.
